Richard W Birkinshaw The 42nd Lorne Conference on Protein Structure and Function 2017

Richard W Birkinshaw

I have a long-standing interest in structural biology and single molecule biophysical methods and using these techniques to understand how small molecules modulate biological processes. I am currently working in A/Prof Peter Czabotar’s group at the Walter and Elisa Hall Institute as the senior postdoctoral scientist. My skillsets include X-ray crystallography, SPR and single molecule kinetics. My work covers a variety of biological problems principally focusing on regulation of apoptosis, but also studying other topics including epigenetics, malarial invasion complexes, immunological complexes and host defense against pathogens. I am also interested in scientific development for postdocs and promoting postdoctoral networking and conferences. I am always happy to discuss my science, postdoc development and at Lorne am always looking for people to go surfing with in the afternoon break!
